Post-doc on Internet end-to-end latency issues at Telecom Bretagne, Rennes, France

Description:

The Networks, Security & Multimedia Dept. (RSM) at Telecom Bretagne in Rennes, France has an opening for one postdoctoral research fellow in the field of computer networking. The position is a one-year contract, with the possibility of being renewed for a maximum total duration of three years.

The post-doctoral fellow will work in the framework of the EU research project RITE (Reducing Internet Transport Latency), starting on November 1st, 2012. The project will focus on the problem of end-to-end latency in the Internet, and related topics like the so-called “bufferbloat” issue. RITE will develop solutions for improving latency, both at the transport and the network layers of the protocol stack.

Requirements:

Applicants must hold a PhD degree (or be very near completion) on Computer Science or a related discipline, and show a good track record of scientific publications. Besides, applicants must have:

  • In-depth knowledge of Internet transport protocols and standards.
  • Experience with network simulators and/or with kernel programming (in Linux and/or FreeBSD).
  • High proficiency in English (knowledge of the French language is not required).

Type of job offer:

  • Fixed-term, 12-month contract (possibility of renewal, for a maximum total duration of three years).
  • Expected starting date: as soon as possible.
  • Gross salary: starting at 33,200 € / year, depending on qualifications.
